1841 Mississippi Rear Sight questions: REPRO guns

We picked up a new member for the team, and he comes with a listed, N-SSA approved 1841 Mississippi in 54 caliber.

Rear sight is the original style - Dovetailed blade.

IF we need to change to a flip-up sight / long range type, do any of them utilize the existing dovetail?

Research indicates that the other types of sights are either soldered or screwed into the barrel, but I'm asking all our '41 Mississippi experts out there to chime in...

Front sight is the tiny brass post/bump.

Of course, before we change anything, we're going to shoot it to see if we can be 'on' for 50 (probably with taller front sight) and Kentucky windage for 100, but I want to educate myself to potential options should the existing sights prove to be inadequate.

    Thanks!!

As I recall there was something else you need to do along with changing the sight to keep it legal.
Also there was an adjustable sight that does use the dovetail.

I was just going to use a dovetail but drill a peep in it. Just never did start messing with it before the shutdown.

    Bruce,

I'm looking more for 'specific' information - Like what (repro) make/model rear sight would fit and where did you buy it...

S&S carries the different versions of the Mississippi Long Range rear sights. It really does depend on which Variant you are going for. John Holland or one of the sac members can provide the sheets for the different version (IIRC there is like 9 different versions)

    Jon,

I believe we would need to add a Bayonet mount...

Be super careful of your stock measurements on the SAC sheet. Some of the repros were approved with incorrect specs. They are good to go as is ,but once a change is made they will need to be correct to get your card.
