My first car was a '59 Chevy Bel Air that had originally belonged to my Grampa. Dad horse traded it from him and then he swapped it to me for a pair of walkie talkies. Straight 6 with 3 on the tree. I remember taking my driving test in 1967 and impressing the instructor by holding it on an incline in gear without using the brakes. I thought those big fins were so cool.

As a side note, I sure hope some moderator type isn't flipping out over this unauthorized use of the bulletin board.

Maybe we need another category where old guys can reminisce without feeling guilty.

My momma had a '59 Impala convertible, cream with a black top. Drive train was the 283 V8, coupled to a PowerGlide transmission. She traded for a '65 Impala hardtop, that had a straight six and a three-on-the-tree. I learned to drive in this car.

I'm so square, the teacher used to use me for a model in geometry class.

Then got the '62 Pontiac Tempest Leman just like this - had that 389 V-8 cut in half, bucket seats, floor stick.. Had to fight off the girls.
