Load workups with the Pedersoli P58.

I've been toying with this gun for a few years now. I got a great group with it with 60 grains 2F Goex and the RCBS 500M bullet sized to .578.

    But I don't usually stock 2F powder - I shoot 3F in everything.

I glass bedded this gun about 4-5 months ago and since we had today off work I decided to go do some workups with 3F Goex Powder.

    Here are the results:

56 grains of 3F seems to be the best. It's an expensive gun to shoot with 520 grains of lead and 56 grains of powder per shot.

This is an early example of the Pedersoli line of Civil War guns shortly after they took it over from Euroarms. It has a 3-digit serial number. It has a bunch of cast parts left over from Euroarms. I replaced the rear sight with a nice machined version. Newer Pedersoli guns some with one standard. The lock internal parts are obviously leftovers also, except the springs. When first removed the barrel, there were brass shavings all under the barrel and behind the lock. Evidently they mis-machined the tang screw in the trigger guard plate and just cross-drilled it and re-tapped it to salvage the parts. They must have done this on the gun in order to have brass shavings in the works like they did.

The first time I pushed the lock out of the mortise it raised a splinter out of the stock as the mortise-to-lock fit was so tight.

I later bought a Pedersoli P53 and they had worked out the teething issues of the new line.

You helped me here on the forum when I was trying to work up my P58 in the past. I was able to get decent groups with the same bullet as you and I settled on 40 grains of 3F goex for economy. Image is of 11 shots without cleaning off a bench. 45 and 50 was about the same but with my vertical spread, it didn?t look like charge difference was going to print on the target. im pretty sure the vertical spread is me not being able hold in a repeatable way withthe sights. I?m curious to see what kind of sight set up you have. Mines a bedded PH P58, but not sure how big of a difference that makes.
