Please share if you are aware of any bullet metal other than pure being used for original Civil War era bullets. If there are references, either way, those would help. Many thanks.

The Gardner explosive bullets used a harder alloy. Other than that I don?t know of any for sure. I have found round balls cast from pewter in CW camps.
Thanks, MGM.
Been a while.
All the best.
Kevin
The Gardiner explosive bullet was made using pewter. Pewter melts at 446 degrees.

Thanks, Mike:
Seems to me that pewter in any common alloy would have been at least three times harder and more expensive than pure lead. Maybe donated or scrapped dinnerware was used. Haha.

Kevin
The Williams patent ("Cleaner" bullet was made of pure lead but had other metals involved. The type 1 had zinc discs, while the type 2 and 3 had a harder lead insert and the zinc discs.
