    how much loose powder.

a while ago I ask and was told just how much loose 3FG. black powder to put in the chamber of my IAB, ITALIAN SHARPS. now that said, I seem to remember that I could use from 35, GRS. up to 45,GRS. of loose powder behind a .530,DIA. bullet. just hold / point the barell up before shooting it, so the powder would go back up against the inner cone. am I going in the right direction? at 76++, I some times forget if I din't rite it down. witch I will do this time. thank's, toot.

3f is hard on your Sharps. 2f works better. I use 60 gr. in mine but I'm not competing either.

Why is 3f hard on a sharps vice 2f? Does it leak out the gas seal?

Yes, etches the gas plate faster than 2f.

    loose powder load in SHARPS.

so to my question of how much loose powder-35 to 45 GRS. of 2FG. in my IAB, SHARPS, can I use it ? I have used MR. HAHN'S tubes witch hold about 35 grains, I beleave? and there is not a problem.

I recommend you use cartridges...Either Mr. Hahn's cartridge tubes or make your own cartridges using Ladies Hair Curling papers. As long as your cartridge fills up ALL the space in the chamber behind the base of the bullet, you are O.K.. In other words, you don't want some "air space" in a loaded chamber

I prefer to use 3 FFFg in my Sharps. 3 FFFg produces less fouling.

Mr. Hahn does not recommend filler with his tubes.

I'm not convinced that filler is necessary with the Sharps.

Firstly, the breech end of the barrel and receiver is massive.

But also, it is not possible to not have an air space inside the Sharps chamber, due to the cavity in the breech block.

I have shot many cartridges (I roll my own from paper) using 40-45 grains 3F and with an air gap. However, I have also discovered that .51 fiber wads fit nicely inside the cartridge also. Accuracy impact is inconclusive right now.
