    WTB - Lead furnace

I'm a new guy here and want to get into bullet casting cheap. Does anyone have a Lead Furnace they would like to part with? I prefer a 10 pound bottom pour. Thanks.

If you really want to go cheap, get a camp stove, cast iron pot and a dipper. If you are casting large Minies (.54-.69), many folks avoid bottom pour electric furnaces, due to the bullets not filling out completely.

Thanks for the advice. Currently I use a hot plate and propane torch.

It's hard to beat a Lee 4-20 pot for low cost casting. I've been casting bullets for 10 years now and have gone through 2 pots. They tend to be a little leaky but that's OK with me.

    Here's a 10-pound version:

Maybe you can find a used one for cheaper, but that's pretty cheap to me.

I have been looking at that 10 pounder, but it was out of stock. Looks like they just got a new shipment. Thanks.

I use a camp stove converted to propane, a cast iron pot and a Lyman bottom pour dipper. Use a casting thermometer to get your lead to 700 degrees before you throw your first bullet.

Bottom pour electric pots won't do a good job casting minies.

    Buffalo Arms 20 pounder!

A wise old skirmisher pointed me to a WONDERFUL lead pot, sold by Buffalo Arms.

?Fabulous? is the only word needed to describe it...

Since getting it several years ago, the quality of my castings have improved to perfection.

Large capacity, gets up to 850 degrees, easily capable of supporting long casting runs for hours on end.

Some even say this is a clone to the venerable Rapine Lead Pot.
