    broken bit in fire channel?

OK, so I'm doing my first clean on this Pietta Smith that I picked up off of Gunbroker that I shot this weekend for the first time.

First thing I notice is there aren't many threads holding that clean-out screw in place. Like barely 3, and 3 is the minimum I tolerate in design work.

But more troubling is that it looks to me like there is something down in the fire channel. I can't tell if it is a tap or a drill bit that maybe got broken off while they were making the fire channel.

The gun fires fine, and when I put a pipe cleaner in through the cleanout it is easily visible in the breech hole. So there is no obstruction.

    Should I be concerned here?

Have you tried compressed air through it?

Yes it blows through no problem.

While shooting off my 50 loads on Saturday I only had one failure to fire.

    I don't think there is a blockage.

    Shoots great!

I'm going to send the carbine to Larry Flees for more of his masterwork. He can re-work the area under the cone as well as address the cleanout screw. Plus he can look at the trigger and other things.
