Original Model One and a John Bly Barrel.

I am going to put in to service an Original Model One Maynard Carbine but because I do not want to change the original Front Sight (on the original Barrel)

I assume this will work (John?) I know it fits my Romano. I am not aware if there are any significant differences between the Originals and how Larry made his.

I thought I remembered someone talking about having to adjust headspace years ago and am wondering if this is true or I can just plop it on and start shooting?

A barrel for an original will not fit a Romano Maynard. Neither will a barrel for a Romano Maynard fit an original properly. There are dimensional differences that are not compatible between the two.

    ???

Just a little more info..... if you are wanting to put your Romano barrel on your original 1st model???? The original 1st model was designed to move forward and backward to make up for the different thicknesses of the case head at that time. By the time the second model came out they had a hole under the barrel so it couldn't move / adjust. If I had a Romano 1st model barrel I'd give the original receiver to Larry to have him make sure the firing holes align between the receiver and his barrel. I don't remember if Larry's have the barrel slot for adjusting or not.

A few word of clarification on the hole in the front lug on the 2nd Model. The hole is not round but slotted on purpose so that the barrel locks up on the rear lugs and that there is no force on the front screw upon firing. The full length slot on the 1st Models and later sporting models is to make take down easy. The fact that it is slotted all the way to the rear clearly shows that there is no force on the screw during firing. The front screw is purely a pivot point to allow the barrel to rotate down for loading and unloading.
