    2020 Black Powder Shoots in N. Virginia/DC Metro Area

    Skirmishers located near the Northern Virginia (Manassas) area:

    Try something a bit different, shoot steel targets with your Musket or roundball loading arm.


    There are 6 muzzle loading silhouette shoots which will be held at the Fairfax Rod & Gun Club from April to September.


    Run by skirmishers, and attended by both skirmishers and local Black Powder enthusiasts, these competitions are something different using steel targets and a relaxed, easy-going shooting environment.

    Bud Meyer Black Powder Silhouette Shoot 2020 Season
    Come out to an old-fashioned grocery shoot! Prizes are awarded for all places. Special prizes for 1st Place Round ball & 1ST Place Bullet.

    Place:
    FAIRFAX ROD & GUN CLUB at the Lea (Valley) Range
    7039 SIGNAL HILL ROAD
    Manassas, VA 22110

    Directions: Club is 3 miles east of Manassas, on Signal Hill Rd. (a mile down Liberia Rd. off Route 28. You can also take Ellis Rd. from Prince William Parkway.
    Email or call prior to the match date for the gate code.

    Dates (Fired rain or shine thanks to covered firing positions):



    • April 26, Sunday
    • May 24, Sunday
    • June 28, Sunday
    • July 26, Sunday
    • August 30, Sunday
    • September 20, Sunday


    Times:
    Range Preparation: 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM
    Practice: 9:00 AM - 9:30 AM
    Match Starts: 9:45 AM
    Typically matches end around 1:00 PM

    Entry Fee: $15 per Competitor (Match is open to all competitors)

    Facilities:
    Covered Firing Line with soda machine & toilet. A snack bar and Pro Shop are located in the Club House.

    Course of Fire:



    • 10 Prairie Dog Silhouettes at 50 yards
    • 10 Buffalo Silhouettes at 75 yards
    • 10 Standing Bear Silhouettes at 100 yards

    All firing is done at the individual shooter?s pace.

    Firearms/Ammunition:



    • Any Black Powder muzzle-loading arm.
    • Any iron sight is acceptable - NO optics.
    • Any lead projectile - Round ball, Minie, or bullet. (Rounds must not be capable of damaging steel silhouettes.)

    All shooters are asked to help set up & take down steel plate targets, as they are able. Fairfax Rod & Gun Rules are in effect. Rules are posted for viewing.

    Sounds like fun. Wish it were closer.

    Is this a jeans and t-shirt event or is some form of uniform or period costume required. I know a lot of people would disagree with me, but I like shooting a WHOLE lot more than the 'playing dress up' part of of our sport.

    Come as you are, jeans, t-shirts, whatever. All are welcome, no uniforms or costume involved.

    Man, I sure wish it were closer. Sounds like a blast. Very little of that in our area. We have to drive over 5 hours just for regional N-SSA shoots.
