Just keep in mind that some of the Italian made barrels for the repro 1861 Special Models came defective from the factory, i.e., the breech screw threads were cut way too deep into the breech of the barrel. That destroyed any chance for the barrel to be accurate.

Pablom - Just so you know, the reproduction Chattahoochie barrels will not fit an original stock. Be patient, original 1861 Special Model barrels do show up occasionally. Although, you may find a cut-down example easier and have it restored by someone like R.A. Hoyt.

    Colt special musket

Thanks John, I would not settle for a reproduction. If someone has a cut down one I?d do as you said. Hoyt does very nice work.
    Thanks

My son-in-law has a Chattahoochie Special musket. When he bought it from a teammate we discovered that it would not hold a group at 50 yards. We had Dan Whitacre put on his barrels on the breech. When it was returned it dropped into the stock perfectly. I spoke to Dan after he put the barrel on if he noticed anything about the old barrel that would have caused the problem. Dan told us that the inside of the barrel under the front sight had a dimple that he believed occurred that when they put the front sight on - too much heat.

    1861 special musket barrel

Hello, I have a full length 1861 special musket barrel that came off of a stock assembly that had been cut down and was used as a shotgun. The barrel should clean up alright and Hoyt can do a full length liner. I want $100 plus shipping for the barrel. Email me at jbdav@aol.com.

Colt Special Myusket from 20 years ago.

I have one of the Colt Reproductions that is in full Length without a lock.

Brand new, maybe shot one day and then I got the shorter version.

The lock was set up and used as a backup for the shorter one.

So, it has the Stock, Bands, Barrel and I assume Ramrod.

I think about $350 would be fair if you are interested.
