Buenos Aires stamp on Merrill stock

Anyone ever seen Buenos Aires circle stamp on any Civil War era firearms stocks. Wondering if it was done by the US or Merrill. If by the US, then surely other manufacturers' firearms would have been so stamped. Thanks, Eric.

I cannot say that I have, but the Argentine Army Museum in Buenos Aires has a pretty incredible collection of US Civil War arms that were purchased to fight their wars in the 1860s and 70s. Most everything we had found its way to them in one form or another. Sounds like one made its way back. I will look through my photos to see if I took a picture of a Merrill; I know I have pix of Smith, Sharps, Maynard, Hall, and Spencers in their Museum. Bob

Thanks for the info Bob. First few searches last night for the Argentine Army Museum didn't land me to the museum. Just some dead ends. I'll keep searching tonight and if successful I'll try to call them next week.

As this Merrill is almost up for auction, I'm thinking the 17833 could no way have been a military sale. Merrill must have sold this and several others directly to the Argentina government. Crossing my fingers that some contacts can shed light on the sales/contracts. Oh boy, can't wait...

I have a free service that gives me city/state when folks access my site. Someone from Argentina spent two hours but I haven't received any emails providing answers about Merrills at the museum or contracts with Merrill. I'll send another Spanish message thru the last site address...
