    Nessler ball

Just read a post on another site describing results obtained with the Eras Gone Nessler in a smoothbore. Pretty dismal.

    This is probably the URL:

The tester tested it at 70 grains 3F.

The service load with round ball was 110 grains or so.

I have not yet experimented with the Nessler (it's not allowed for N-SSA combat so it has been a low priority for), but I wonder if it is going to take a stout charge to compress the bullet.

Had a guy give me a few to try.
I hope to be able to get a good group. If I can then I will use it to hunt with.

If you put as much lubrication in the compression groove(s) of a one or two groove System Lorenz ("Wilkinson") compression bullet as he was putting in the compression groove of the North Carolina style Nessler bullet, the Lorenz/Wilkinson bullet would not compress properly and if shot from a rifled weapon would go into the target sideways much of the time. Not having played with the Nesslers, I can't comment further.

What I read is base lube only. No lub in the groove

Its wasn't designed as a smooth bore bullet

From what I have read from other sources its for rifled guns, not smoothies. I am of the opinion they are for the lighter weight 69 caliber, short barrel barreled rifles. Besides you can't use them in the N-ssa in any smooth bore in competitions. I know some will disagree but do some research yourself before responding. Did you see the period drawn, sectioned picture with the bullet in a rifled barrel?
