This carbine was issued to Private W.H. Robinson of Company G, 18th New York Cavalry Regiment. The Carbine is identified by serial number in the company records as being issued to Private Robinson and included is the research letter from Springfield Research Services. The carbine is in fine overall condition and shows a very old shellac coating as used in collections in the early 1900's. The shellac appears as the staining on the receiver and barrel. I have not tried to remove this but it should come right off with mineral spirits if desired. The bore is fine, barrel metal is smooth and brown with the receiver taking on a silver appearance. The rear sling swivel is long gone. No cartouche is visible. The carbine shows the very early post civil war upgrade from .52 to .50 caliber without the stabler cutoff before it was shipped west to Oregon, most likely in 1868. This is indicated by the D Company, Weapon Number 5, 8th Cavalry Regiment stamp on the butt stock. This old war horse ended the war in the south around Louisiana and Texas and eventually worked its way out to Oregon and down to New Mexico and possibly back to Texas before being taken out of service.

Please message me for more photos if needed. I need to find this old war horse a good home.

I am asking $2,450 and will include shipping in a new hard case.
