    Smith Carbine question??

    Greetings All,
    I have recently come into possession of an early American Machine Works made Smith... Serial number 1703.. Reference data says it was likely made in October of 1863. I know a lot of these were never issued and this one is in pretty nice shape if it was. Based on that serial number, what do you guys and gals think about likelihood of issuance Name:  attachment-3-8.jpg

    Assuming the photo is representative of the rest of the gun, I'd say having served on campaign is rather unlikely.
