Some bore scope pictures of my breech face

I was cleaning my Enfield last weekend when I discovered that it felt funny when I pushed a pipe cleaner down the fire channel with the nipple out. Tried to stick a pick down the hole and it would not go in very far. I had stopped pulling my barrel and cleaning it in my utility sink as folks has said it was bad for accuracy to pull the barrel. So I had been doing it just with patches and brushes and a breech scraper.

So, I stuck my cheap-o endoscope down the bore and saw this:

You can see the fuzz around the hole in the "breech face" where the pipe cleaner had been coming through the wall of coke.

At first from this picture I first worried that there might be a bullet impacted down there.

Next go at cleaning got me this far:

You can see my pick sticking through the fire channel.

Finally I pulled the barrel and used my breech scraper while the breech was submerged in my utility sink full of hot soapy water.

This has taught me to be a little more vigilant in my cleaning of the breech face.

Consider polishing the breech face. That will make it less susceptible to stuff sticking to it

    Super informative and thanks, Steve:
    .
Please share info about the endoscope and where to obtain one.
My expensive one won't reach that far. Thanks.

I got this one via some facebook-pushed ad. But you can find them on ebay or amazon for like $15.

    $5:

Be aware that not all Android phones support video cameras. I discovered this the hard way. However, my PC works fine with the borescope using Oasis video capture software (free).

I wish they made these with a higher-resolution camera but it's pretty amazing for $15.

Here's the view of my Colt Contract after cleaning. These cheapo endoscopes really help see just what's with the breech area

    Thx for sharing.

I have a Wifi scope that works on my iphone.
Because SOO much black soot comes out in my bucket when I pull the barrel, I have been hesitant to NOT pull the barrel when cleaning.

Has anyone got a thread or web site they follow for cleaning procedure w/o pulling the barrel and what tools to use?

You could use a tube from the nipple into a bucket. They sell attachments with different threads to fit different guns
