While I'm not all that familar with all of the carbines used during the Wah, I believe the Smith carbine replicas only come in .50 caliber.

It does. Only ".50" cal yet the rounds measure .518-520 making it a .52?? Go figure

I think it took a while to get folks to kinda standardize on whether they wanted to talk bore diameter or groove diameter. Or ball diameter, to throw another kink into it. Minies need to be a hair under bore size. Round balls for smoothies are several hairs below bore size. Then breechloaders needed bullets a hair over groove diameter. It's a wonder there's not more confusion than there is.
