Hello,
I just purchased a Richmond carbine built by Tom Nixon with a hoyt barrel. The barrel is .582 and I would love some advice on the type of bullet I should use in this carbine.
Thank you!

I can send you 25 big 579 in the 213 style, 505 grains, for ten dollars to try. Sorry for the cost but it is $7.00 + or minus just the ship the darn things.

I just worked on one similar to yours this past summer with the exception being the bore was .581". After installing a new front sight, I sat down to get the rifle musket dialed in and this is what I discovered; the rifle musket liked the old style minie the best and it shot the best three shot group with 55 grains of 3F.

Hello:
All of my Hoyt's have numbers stamped on the bottom rear of the barrel showing at least his sequence number, twist and bore size.

I do not have any hoyt rifled carbines but he seems to favor 1 in 56 and 1 and 60.

I have a James River 1861 Richmond Carbine and I just took this rifle out to shoot for the first time last Saturday.
I used my Musket Bullet which is a .580 Hodgdon sized to .579 and 45 Grains of Goex 3F.
I have one of these Tennessee Mold Sighting Tools and it shot great.
Seems yours is larger but I know Hoyt's Barrel, which is what it is supposed to be, shoots just fine.
My only issue was a little Cokeing about 2/3rds down the barrel so I am considering sizing them .578.
