Read this thread with interest. Acquired a 'broken' all-matching 5th Model Burnside at a giveaway price locally perhaps 30 years ago. It's only problem was, as the guide screw was missing, the breechblock had locked open. Otherwise, it was unissued. Never, ever could get it to both function well and be accurate at the same time. My old Rapine Burnside mould cast a bullet too large for the brass, brass it tended to ruin. Sized, it shot miserably. Like a dog returneth to its vomit, I tried again and again to find a satisfactory combination. Now in my golden years, I concluded life is far, far too short to waste on troubled firearms...there are so many rewarding alternatives. So I retired the Burnside...but, confess, a nagging thought troubles my aged mind: "Maybe, just maybe if I trot it out one more time....
