Early Smith Carbine with stock swivels in 4xxx serial number range. Gun is set up for shooting with taller front sight and removeable shim for rear sight for 100 yards. Comes with original hinge pin and new hinge pin that tightens up action perfectly. Trigger is set up for 4.25-4.5 pounds. Excellent bore. Action opens and closes easily and smoothly. I have shot this gun using reduced capacity custom brass Smith tubes which are for sale separately. I used 30 grains of 3f powder with a 360 grain Smith Maynard bullet sized .516". Gun has excellent markings on receiver and is now a mottled gray in appearance. Barrel is mostly blue in the octagonal section and turning to brown in the round section. There is no exterior pitting. Wood is original and has fairly minimal dings. No cartouches remain on the stock. Gun will be available for inspection at the Allegheny Skirmish. The asking price for this gun is $1,575, delivered to the Fort. Gun can be shipped for additional charge.
