I decided to try a smoothbore and purchased an Armisport 1842 69 cal smoothbore. The barrel miked out at .690 and the balls I cast are .682. I tried 3F from 50 to 80 grains. It actually did not group too bad, just in the wrong place. The 25 yd group is about 8 inches right and 6 low. The 50 yard group is about 12 inches right and 8 low. I am hoping for some guidence on the best way to correct the problem

To adjust the point of impact you will need to bend the barrel down in the center and in on the left side. I use v-blocks and a hydraulic press to do this. After you get the point of impact where you want it, you will need to glass bed the barrel for the best consistency. Without the bedding, the point of impact tends to walk as the barrel heats up in a match. Hope this helps, Tim.

Thanks Tim, thats exactly the answer I was hopeing not to hear. How much we talking about moving? I have a hyd press but not sure how to bend it in that. Wouldn't a tubing bender work better?

The impact location suggests you could be yanking the trigger(assuming you are right handed) Try Lightening your trigger pull to 4-5 pounds....also you may want to do some dry firing practice focusing on squeeeezing the trigger!

Also make sure the front band is on straight and stays that way during the match.

No hydraulic press needed, just use your knee and pull on both ends of barrel, or use a tree and push on both ends of barrel. Works all the time with guarantee, excellent results.

Thanks for the replies. I assue you it is not a trigger or operator problem. Before I attempt to move the barrel I did notice something that was different. When I took the musket apart to clean it I noticed that the stock has a serious pull to the right and down. With the bands off the front of the stock pulls down a good 1 1/2 inch and about 2 inches right. How much pressure does it take to change point of impact?
