I posed this question on a different forum, and everyone says to look up a user here named "Two Flints".....so if anyone has contact with him, please spread the word that I would really love to "bend his expert ear" for a second. Ort one of anyone else that could point me in the right direction.

Here is the situation:

I am looking for the resources to track a carbine to original unit issue, if possible.

Info:

Starr Carbine, Percussion cap, 1858, SN #903X (sorry about not full number, but always felt weird about posting a full SN)
Condition Good-Excellent Action completely free, all parts present.

I am not really looking for a appraisal.....more about looking for the provenance of this beauty. I am a firm believer in preserving history, and I can only imagine what this carbine can tell.
