Need clear photo of Owsiak brass 35 Maynard mold

Hello:

Please help. Larry Romano indicated to me that he is no longer supplying his 35 Maynard mold blocks.

Am trying to determine if Mike Owsiak made more than one PROFILE bullet mold for the 36 Maynard.
Recall seeing photo's of Mike's blocks for a 36 that shoots well in a 36 Romano, but cannot relocate them. But a recent call to Mike by Lou resulted in Mike describing the bullet as like a Maxi-ball. Am now confused.

I think Jim Wimbish may still have and use an Owsiak 36 mold.

The Owsiak bullet profile I recall seeing is very close to Romano's bullet, but with a small radius on the bullet base.

Just sent Lou my application to join the A'ssn. and his Unit. Hooray.

I still shoot the Owsiak 35 Maynard bullet. It looks to me just like the bullet that Larry's mould casts. I had both but sold the Romano mould so I could cast 4 at a time with the Owsiak mould. The bases of the bullets look the same to me as does the rest of the bullet. The Owsiak bullet weighs a few grains more and is just a bit longer, I believe.

I am still confused because Mike now says that the ONLY 36 Maynard he made/makes is a "Maxi-ball" profile. At least to me it seems that a "Maxi-ball" profile is quite different from Larry's that you have. Was yours a special order?

I know that you like yours. Any chance you could supply a photo here. It might remind Mike.

Maybe you should ask Larry if he will sell it to you. If he is not using it for anything, why not. Then you you can have any number of mould makers make one.

Yes, I would have paid any reasonable price. But, the cherry was "passed" to a machinist that has since vanished, and the maker of the cherry is no longer doing such work.

Guess the most reasonable alternative to making a cherry is to use either "Accurate" or a similar custom source for blocks. It's interesting to me that most buy Larry's stuff with no expressed need for molds.

I would think Larry still has the dimensions, did you ask him? Have you tried to talk to Mike about his mould ? He is around my booth at the nationals all the time.

I have one of Larry's (marked) 35 Maynard molds and bullets.

The issue is finding a custom maker that will duplicate them for others.

Accurate Molds is a recommendation from John Dam.

Owsiak's 35 Maynard with slightly rounded base works well for Wimbish. Still need a picture of it to compare with Mike's "Maxi-ball" description in hopes that they are one-in-the-same.

One of my customers just got a 35 Maynard mold from Accurate. I've heard that it makes a good looking bullet, haven't heard how it shoots yet. I'll call him to see what I can find out. I'm the one who sent him to Accurate so I've got a vested interest in it.

I checked my mould. It is marked 'Old West", .368, 200 and is a 4 cavity brass design. I checked Old West Bullet Moulds and found it. It is under Single Shot Rifle bullets and is identified as Maynard 35 caliber. The diameter is .370" and it comes in a 2 cavity mould for $95. I size my bullets to .367", so if you go with the mould you will need a custom sizing die for the bullet. I recommend Tom Crone highly for sizing dies.
