There was nothing for it.
The barrel was reefed into the receiver very tightly. It required extraordinary effort to break it free.
The only option here would be to have the barrel refinished. This would certainly be possible, but would add probably another $200-$300 to the cost.
I've used Larry for multiple gun and mold-related machining work. The man absolutely knows what he is doing and knows our hobby.
Besides which, your options are extremely limited for getting a Sharps to reliably work for skirmishing. Your options are Larry Flees and Charlie Hahn. I don't think Charlie is doing machine work right now, and his web site is down. As I recall, Charlie also welds the gas check plate to the breech block, making future work on it more difficult (like when you need a new gas check plate).
Your only other option is to buy a Shiloh Sharps while they are doing a run of percussion guns.
