Would someone out there be so kind as to tell me when CS box plates started showing up on cartridge boxes during the war? Did they show up early, late and what areas of operation would they be appropriate for, etc.?
Thanks.
Larry

You'll probably have better luck if you ask your question over at www.cwreenactors.com
The Mullinax book on buckles is a great place to start.

Brass 'CS' cartridge box plates began appearing about 1958.
Echos of Glory shows a CS box with CS plate attached but doesn't date it. The box is marked "Richmond".
I knew a fella who lived and hunted Spottslvania. He found several so they were around in 1864. However, they were very thin, very scarce and I have never seen a good reproduction.
