Hewes and Phillips, Potsdam, m1817 Common Rifle, and Pedersoli

    Good afternoon to all.
I have the following for sale. You can click on each of them to go to the FB album to browse. Please feel free to shoot me a message with questions or additional questions. I'm not looking for trades at this point, but will consider all. All prices include shipping.

    Thank you,
    Mark

    2. Potsdam $425 (Almost skirmish ready- needs a bayonet clasp added and about 2 inches of stock and a new forward band) Sold and shipped
    3. M1817 Common Rifle Flintlock Reconversion $925 (Would be an excellent project to reline the barrel) Sold and shipped
    4. Pedersoli 1816 Flintlock $925 (Skirmish Ready) Sold and shipped

    H&P

    Mark

Your H&P is a Type 1 and I believe most if not all were originally rifled. The Type 2s were smoothbore and the rear sight was mounted like the '61s, not backward like the one you have. Your rear sight is mounted correctly for a type 1. Type 2s also have a different hammer and bolster.

I'll take the Common Rifle, if still available. Instructions?

    Hi Dan,
This would be the New Jersey Type 2 Alteration. p. 72 in Moller discusses the Type 1, which is a more rounded bolster. The Type 2's (p. 73 in Moller), are more triangular, smoothbore, but someone probably turned the site around thinking it was wrong.

You might try interlibrary loan to get the books to find your answer as well!
