    Nipple cone protector question

What is the benefit of having a nipple cone protector? I am not a re-enactor and am not currently able to shoot N-SSA due to my military assignment out west? Is it more like a "snap cap" that enables you to practice so that you can get the feel of the trigger? Thanks for any insights. Just curious as to whether having one might be beneficial.

When I dry fire I use a 45acp brass. This keeps the nipple from being damaged. I guess any brass that fits over the nipple will do just fine.
