I am going through a Civil War journal that a G.G.G. uncle of mine wrote. As they where forming their unit, 11th Indiana regiment, to move out of Indianapolis on September 5, 1861 he writes, “There are queer patterns of breech loading cannonsexhibited here. The inventor wishes Col. (Lew) Wallace to recommend it to the Sec. of War.” What gun was this? Was there a gun inventor who was from Indiana and the cannon did not get used in the war?
