Went to the range today and did some load workups on my new-to-me Armisport 1842. I cast up balls using wheel weight lead and an RCBS .678 mold. Filed off the sprues and then double-dipped them in Lee Alox.

I made 10-shot loads in 5-grain increments from 45 grains up to 80 grains 3F Goex.. My 45 grain group was pretty much just like the 50 grain group but I did not know where to aim so it was off the paper so I did not include it. Groups started to tighten up at 55 grains, which resulted in the best group, unless you discount obvious fliers, in which case 70 grains was the best group, pretty much blowing a single ragged hole in the paper.

This was shot at 25 yards off a bench rest.

On some targets it was not possible to absolutely identify 10 discrete bullet holes, a couple of times I had to guess the hit location.
