Is the 1816 Remington Conversion marked H&P on the breech with the 1855 lock approved? I know the H&P Type I is not. Thanks in advance.

The bigger question is ..... is it smooth or a rifled 69? Sights?

It is Smooth with 55, 3 leaf sight like the H&P Type II I have a card on, only difference is the 55 lock, meant to say "legal" not approved since I know all sighted smoothbore muskets must be inspected and a SAC card issued.

Thanks to all;

I know this is an old thread but I am having a hard time finding good clear answers on this exact firearm and the different variations of it.
It starts as a M1816 Springfield, is then converted to percussion, with an H&P style breech, around 1856?, by Remington.
Now the questions. I am finding a few different examples of these.
what are the different variations of these arms?
Ive seen some with no rear sight,
some with a '55 type long range rear sight,
some claiming to be rifled,
and others claiming to be smoothbore.
And then....
What variations are or are not approved by the N-SSA for smoothbores and/or rifled muskets?
