Okay, you horse pistol experts. Where does a guy start on successful shooting of the single shot horse pistol? Any suggestions for starting loads for a .54 Aston pistol? I am the world's worst pistol shooter but I have a couple of these cannons and I want to give it a go at the Deep South regional next weekend. Any suggestions welcome, especially in regard to decent powder charges.

Thanks-

Jim,

You can try approx. 30 grs. of 3f GOEX with a Lyman .535 RB. Rough the ball with a wood rasp or such and apply Alox. That's a start. Don't expect too much. 25 yds. shouldn't be too bad but it's poke and hope at 50 because you'll probably have to sight in on something other than the black bull. It's tough getting 10 on the paper at 50 so take a lot of ammo. Most of all have fun with the hand held cannon.

A 66 took 1st at the Spring Nats and I think a 78 at the Fall. Guys are starting to figure this out just like they did with the muskets.

Hope to see ya on the line in May.

Thanks for the info. Believe me, it will be a poke and a hope!
