Can anyone tell me the thread size for the rear sight screw for an original '63 Springfield?
Thanks in advance,
Duane

Are you asking about the screw that holds the base to the barrel or the screw that the leaves pivot on?

The base screw. I should have made that clear.

Thanks Harry, but I have the screw. I have a 50/70 1868 TD that uses the same screw for it's sight. It has no windage adjustment. The rifle shoots 5" to the right at 50 yards so I came up with a windage ajustable sight. The problem is the original screw is too short and the head is too wide.

I think if you take the screw to a hardware store they could measure the threading on it.

The screw is a #8 but the thread seems to be non standard. An 8-32 will start but binds up. Can't find any #8s with a different thread to try.
