Recondictioning Mississippi rivle

I'm reconditioning my 30 year old Garrett Arms Mississippi Rifle. The European Beech stock refinished nicely with the Track of the Wolf products. Is there a solution that I can soak the brass hardware in to take off the black powder crud down to an original patina or should I take it apart and tumble it? Thank you.

I wouldn't recondition it to much, it might not shoot after. As far as the brass is concerned, you could wash it in soapy water, and then use brasso on it, that will shine the brass. Take the brass off and clean it. Brasso will clean the brass.
