Jim

There are som guys from Tuckers Navel Brigade that have cut several of my guns down.
Great work and price.

Is 30 inch the shortest? That's the only length number I only saw listed under the approved arms list but I believe there is also a 36 inch. I would prefer 30 over 36.

Jim, for the C.S. Macon Altered M-1842 musket, 30-inch (type 1) is the shortest barrel per the SAC specs. The 34 (Type 2) and 36-inch (Type 3) are the other two longer lengths, but the C.S. Richmond .69 Razee Musketoon is still shorter with a 24-inch barrel. Although I have heard said the 30-inch is the best length, and the 24-inch the worst! But I don't believe everything I hear, and neither should you (IMHO).

24" Richmond with the pinch sight on the front then you have a 30" 2 band, it drops the middle band off and a 34" and 36" both using all the normal bands just moving the front back.
The 36" for the most part using a normal band spring and the 34" using a screw as the distance between the two front bands are not enough.

So 4 standard shortened smoothbore guns based off the 1842, that I know of.

Jim, some of your team mates should be able to help you out. Josh has quite a few parts and Robert and he have put some together.

I shoot a 30" and like it quite a bit but I'm just finishing a 34" version that I think I may like better. One of my team mates shoots a 36" version and it is his favorite. The 30" seems to be most prevalent on the line for the team events.

I have a few 42" and a 30 and 36", I really like the longer ones but I'm getting ready to have another full length cut to a 34" just to have one to try.

I like the shorted length 34-36 better for shooting and loading but I can not shoot them as good as a fulll length so that is what I shoot for team.
The 30" is great for hunting.\

One of these days I plan to have a 24" just for S&G, I'm thinking that I should be able to find one at a deal as most that I have run up on really don't like them as much as the longer ones and when you cut them down, it is hard to go back. So maybe a deal will pop up one day just to fill out the models used....

I am interested in trying a short gun only for the team events where there is a premium on time. I have a nice H & P and it is fine for any individuals that I plan to shoot. I just spoke with a friend of mine who is an excellent SB shooter. He said that the longer guns are more accurate and that he prefers the H&P because of the rear sight. He said that the advantage in accuracy outweighs the disadvantage in loading a 42 inch barrel. So I guess that I will just stick to my H&P. I really enjoy shooting it, anyway.

I have a 24" repro, a 30" and full length originals. The 24 shoots fine, but is a little short when loading. The 30 is my favorite and is still fast to load.
