Anyone know what the right size handles are for a Pietta made mold for the Smith Carbine? I bought the mold on Gunbroker but seller does not know the handle size needed. Would like to get handles by the time the mold arrives. Thanks for the help!

cgtactical,

Don't get too excited yet. I got one of those also. It is a good quality mold, at a great price, but there are two problems.

First, it does not take a standard mold handle. The slots are very narrow. I ended up using a set of handles that I "borrowed" off of a LEE minine ball mold.

Second. The diameter of the bullet is way too small. It mikes out at about .499 and wieghs 300 grains. It has one groove and two wide bands with a rounded nose. Looks like a good design but it is much too small. My Smith groove diameter is .515 so this bullet drops down the bore.

The vendor for these is West Virginia Scrounger or some such, and is the on-line auction office for Navy Arms. I suspect these have been in storage for years after they realized they were too small for the Smiths.

I think I will try to resale mine on Epay as a light bullet for the .500 Smith & Wesson. I don't know of anything else it would work in.

Thanks for the reply.I would be pulling my hair out to find the right solution! Just got it today and as you said it seems nice, but it looks way too small for it to be .515. My Smith works perfect with .515 Rapine bullets from Dixie and 40 grains Pyrodex P in the wonderfully simple plastic tubes. Oh well time to dish out the $$$ for a Rapine  Can't win 'em all!!

Well sir....My handle is WV SCROUNGER.
I do not sell these Smith Molds.

I have bought one from Mr. Val Forgett Jr....
whose father is FAMOUS.

The smith mold I purchased is .505 diameter.

I will kindly over look Mr Threepdr's previous remark stating that these molds as sold by WEST VIRGINIA SCROUNGER. I do believe it is an honest mistake.

thank you
