Lyman Mold vs. RCBS Mold

I was wondering how does the 58 Caliber Blue & Grey Target Mold compare to the RCBS Hodgdon-Style mold. Thanks, Allen

The "captive" plug for the hollow base of the RCBS is sure a lot faster and easier to use! Just my $.02. Green

The RCBS comes in 4 diameters (576, 578, 580, 584) Lyman only 578

Have used the RCBS Molds, all with excellent results. Just picked up a used Lyman mold but haven't used it yet. Casts a .579, has very deep grooves for lub and drops a nice clean bullet. Thought I might try it in a Mark II Snyder.
I'm sure it would be a fine choice but as mentioned earlier, it only comes in the one size-although it may vari a thousandth, and of course it is a little slower to cast because of the base plug. Cost is about the same I believe.

I should have mentioned that for the 30 or so years I have been casting for everything from .32 pistol to .58 musket, I have chosen single cavity Ideal and Lyman moulds in preference to all others. My carbine bullets and revolver balls come from SC Lyman moulds. The only RCBS moulds on my bench are the two different ones for Minie Balls. One came with my Zouave, the one with the smaller point. I borrowed the Lyman mould for the "standard" Minie, took one look at the work involved with that separate plug arrangement, and immediately bought the second RCBS mould in the equivalent design. I may be a little slow, but I'm very lazy!! Green
