Not many of these around. I think what you have is a reproduction called a "Special Model" Musket. Commonly called a Colt / L G&Y / Amoskeg. They were American made and yes they are N-SSA approved. A really very well made musket.

Hi!

Could you post some pictures?
A picture is worth a thousand words.

I am stumped on this one. I do not know the company, nor have I ever (yet) run across such a beast.

With the exception of Mike Yeck's limited production Type I Back When, most of the M1863's around are NUG, Japanese Miroku made Type I and II for Dixie or Navy Arms.

Hallo!

Yup, a Special Model 1861 musket, just substituting some modern stampings in place of the original type Colt, Amoskeag, or Lamson, Goodnow & Yale contract rifle-musket.

I am still stumped on this one.

I forget the full story of repro SM1861, but I recall the adds in the late (?) "Skirmish Line" advertising them ($500 IIRC). Apparently there was not enough N-SSA interest and the whole thing fell apart. Then in the early 1990's, Colt became interested as a longarm offering for their 'Black Powder Signature Series" line made of Italian parts finished and assembled in the USA by Lou Imperato's Iver Johnson operation (Colt Blackpowder Arms) . They were a limited production, circa 1995-1998. And ran out.
The Italians (Armi Sport) then made them for Chattahoochee Arms offered as Amoskeag or L, G & Y's.

This SM1861 RM, from 1981, I have never seen or heard of before.

Intersting. Thanks for sharing!
