Would anyone be willing to trade a lever action or sharps rifle in 45-70 for my .50 cal flintlock? It was built by renowned gun builder Steve Krolick. It is a copy of a Confederate 1809 Harpers Ferry rifle. It has a 42" swamped match grade barrel with lightly curled maple stock with some engraving on the stock. It has a roller bearing on the frizzen and a 3.5 lb trigger pull. It is a tack driver. The lock is a Ketland style with the stamping "Harpers Ferry 1809" on it. The trigger guard is from the model 1803 Harpers Ferry. Gun has been shot less than 40 times. Near mint condition.

Is your rifle a "Schimmel" type without a butt plate?
Who made the barrel?

Yes, it is a Schimmel rifle. Also known as a "Southern boy rifle". It was a copy of one found during the civil war. The Southerners usually repurposed old gun parts. It is not a full copy however, it is made to shoot and be accurate. It is a Green Mountain Barrel from A.I.S.I. 1137 modified, stress relieved, annealed, certified rifle barrel steel. 7/8 barrel size, 14-1/4 trigger reach and 7.2 pounds. It has 8 lands and grooves with a 1 in 70" twist. It was inspiried by the book "The Southern Arsenal" by Dr. James Whisker on page 40. The vent hole has also been internally coned. The rear sight is 11-1/2" inches forward of the breech for us old shooters. It has buckhorn rear sight. It is an L&R flintlock. The trigger bow is of the 1803 style with inspectors initials. Hope this gives more insight.
