Picked up this target muzzle loader and I am trying to figure out what sort of sights might have been on it.
No maker info on it, but it was a high quality gun; Remington cast steel barrel and adjustable Ashmore lock.
There is a small, shallow dovetail at the muzzle, but the only thing at the breech is a pair of threaded holes 4 inches apart.
Anyone got any ideas? Guesses? P.O. was trying to convince me that it was a genuine civil war sniper gun but it looks postwar to me.

A side view would help.

Something like this, perhaps?

This sight, which is being offered by Track of the Wolf (http://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/877/1/RS-3A) and patterned after a sight found on a Carlos Gove chunk gun rifle, uses a rear dovetail though.

Im thinking since its missing a key componet you probably dont want that smoke pole and I'd be happy to take it off your hands to save you any further headachs

Looks like it had a Henry mount on it, on with a brass scope would be mounted. I had one many many moons ago. Search Henry mount scope or Henry mount brass scope. I've seen pictures of them before online

I kinda thought it might have had some sort of tube sight but I never could find any mount with only one screw . . . It had a Lyman 103 tang sight on it and a #17 front globe sight - sold them for twice the cost of the gun!
