Has anyone tried shooting a slug with the smoothbore?

(Other) slimy creatures aside, as you likely know, several patented slugs were invented to extend the accurate range of smoothbore muskets. The tribe survives in the form of various patterns of shotgun slugs used in hunting, self defense, law enforcement, and the military. Designs continue to be invented, some giving a shotgun remarkable accuracy. It would be interesting to see results in a military musket. A 12 guage slug, perhaps sized, might just usefully fit a European musket of nominal .71 calibre while a patched 16 guage slug might work in a .69.

Agreed. Recommend we award Steve a "Best Post" medal and make him come to Fort Shenandoah to get it.

Some of the "slug" designs work very well in a smoothbore musket.

NB: They are not allowed for use in the N-SSA's Competitive Matches, round ball only.
