So today I got to the range with a workup of loads for my Uberti Colt Walker. I think this might be my new skirmish revolver. If only it wasn't so darn heavy! :)

I worked up loads using 30, 35, 40, and 45 grains 3F Shuetzen, using cream of wheat as a filler. I got the best groupings I've gotten out of any of my black powder revolvers.

I accidentally loaded one of my 40 grain loads with 5 35 grain loads so I did not shoot it on the 35 grain course of fire, hence only 5 shots in that target. But it made a fantastic group.

It's hard to tell it from the picture, but on the 45 grain target there are 3 shots in one hole and 2 shots in another hole.

This was shooting off of a bench.

I'm going to make up some more cartridges in the 35-45 grain range and try it again to see which one consistently makes the best group.

I love shooting the Walker. It gets a lot of attention on the range.

I'd say you got a shooter there. Just don't shoot it next to me at a match.

Just got my first revolver yesterday at a show. Used Navy Arms 1858 .44, with .451 RB's it puts them touching at 15 yards. More experimentation is coming, I assure you.

Keep us posted on what your orthopedist says about your wrist and shoulder separations. LOL.

If you are talking about recoil, it's a tame gun to shoot. I've only shot it with 50 grains of powder, as my little rubber tubes for cartridges will only hold that much and a ball.

But it's very tame. First of all, the gun weighs just over 4.5 pounds. That soaks up a lot of recoil. Secondly BP doesn't seem to me to have the instantaneous detonation of smokeless powder.

I find it very tame to shoot. It's just heavy to hold out at arm's length with one hand and keep it still while aiming.

My .44 Mag is much harsher (but I love shooting it.) I wear a shooting glove when shooting it because the grooves in the backstrap actually bite into my hand otherwise.
