I've just made up a bunch of the Rapine Burnside bullets and would like recommendations on good loads. I have
both 3F and 2F GOEX. Would be nice to have the same load for 50yd and 100yd shooting. Also would like to know
if shooters have had to dovetail in new and taller front sight to get it hitting at point of aim. Thanks for any help
that can be given. I understand that at one time these were quite popular in the NSSA competitions>

Steve,
Go up to the Small Arms section, then down 10 posts. There's a discussion of Burnside loads.
Good luck,
Barry

Try 40 grains of FF and nose dip the bullet with lube. And yes, you will need to put a taller front sight on to shoot point of aim at 50 yards.

Don't alter an original gun. You can shoot the Burnside to point of aim with the existing sights. The rear sight has a shoulder to it. Level the original front sight with that shoulder and hold at 6 o'clock on your target, and you should be on at 50 yards. For 100 yards, level the front sight with the top of the back sight.

If you're not right on, adjust your load. Anywhere from 35 to 42 gr FFg will be the sweet spot. Take up the additional space in the case with corn meal filler.

Good luck with it!
