I am in need of a new or used Henry barrel that has not been relined yet. Mine was sent out to be relined and it's pretty much ruined now. I believe there were two different lengths and I need the longer of the two. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Just wondering, how did the barrel get ruined and why did it need to be relined?
Thanks Joe

Thanks, I can get a new barrel from Taylor's for $100.00 less than that.

It needed to be relined because after 20 years of skirmishing, it was just shot out. It's ruined because it has a new liner in it that is chambered closer to a .444 than it is to .44-40 and my new 'smith can't get it out.

I found that my Henry was closer to a .44 mag or special (.430) than the 44/40 which is supposed to be .427. You know the Italians cut corners every chance they can.

I was ordering .430 bullets to get the best accuracy.

Heath,
Are you referring to chamber dimensions or rifling grooves? Measuring the chamber .444 would be ok.

Thanks, I'm referring to chamber length, with a slight exaggeration.

I'm thinking your new "'smith" needs to bore out the liner he put in and re-do the job at his own expense. Just sayin' ...:(

Yes, that would be nice of him. I asked the person that installed the liner to begin with to correct it and was told that he is not willing to do anything about it. The last two times that my Henry has returned from his shop, it has been in progressively worse condition. I fear that if I sent it to him again it would be returned to me looking like something that was dug last week at Cold Harbor. My new "smith" came highly recommended by members here and he advised me that boring out the new liner would be a nightmare and most likely a waste of time and money, ending in further damage to the exterior of the barrel.

Could it be rechambered to .44 Special?

It probably could, I don't know what the OAL of a .44 special is, but then it's still useless to me since that cartridge is not allowed in competition.
