Just curious if anyone has experienced case separation in the Henry and what type of brass it was that separated. Have heard some stories about brass separation from some skirmishers leaving a piece in the chamber. Confined to the 44-40.
Thanks for any info,
Chris

I have seen this a few times and I believe all of the brass were marked with a CDC head stamp.
To remove the brass that is broken off in the chamber, I take a bullet out of another case and put the bullet into the muzzle point down. I use a brass block and a hammer to drive the bullet into the bore. Then push the bullet down the barrel with a heavy cleaning rod. As the bullet passes through the chamber, it captures the brass and takes it out through the receiver.
The entire procedure takes less than 5 minutes.

I had a Marlin 336 chambered in 219 zipper that did this every once a while. I also have had it happen with my 44/40 Henry. What I did to get the blowen off brass out of the chamber was to make up a dummy round and carry it with me. Take the dummy round and work it through the action put a little pressure on it and when you withdraw it the blowen off brass will come out with it.

Had it happen to me twice, was using starline brass. Will not use that type again.
