I recentlly picked up a great shooting 1855 reproduction but can't remove the nipple without removing the lock from the gun. Isn there a better way? A tube wrench won't work and neither will a crescent wrench since the wrench won't clear the tape primer. How does everyone else remove the nipple?
Thanks,

Jim,
I use a plain 1/4 '' open end wrench on both of my 55's. works great for me. Hope this helps.

You could try grinding down the outside walls of a socket wrench for clearance. They give more torque.

Jim:
Sorry to hear you are so taken with your 1855. I was hoping you would be disenchanted and sell it to me. LOL!! Enjoy!
