Is the 1858 Remington by Pietta with a 5.5 inch barrel allowed in competition?

I don't think so...and would advise against it in any case. A longer sight radius will be more shootable.

Are you planning on turning it into a race gun? Rob Lewis at Tri-L replaces the stock barrel as part of his tuning service. He builds to N/SSA rules.

It isn't legal with that short barrel and also the loading lever is shorter that the correct Remngton (I know as I have both) and would need replacement too.
