hi all;
I have a question. I want to make and Springfield model 1847 artillery model . I have a 1842 Springfield that is a cut down . The lock plate is dated 1851. Can I use the 42 model to make the 47 model ? It looks like all that was done was to shorten the 3 band 42 to a 2 band 47. I know that is a little simplifying it. but I think you get my thoughts across. I see that they made them from 1848-59. Also can this be used in the smoothbore matches ? :confused:

The lock plate on a M-1847 Musketoon is much smaller than a M-1842 Musket lock plate, therefore you can not make a M-1847 Musketoon from a M-1842 Musket.

Thanks John. Now , after reading that I looked at the two in photo`s side by side and see the difference.
