FF goex vs FFF goex?

Can I use FF goex in my 1858 Uberti New Army Pistol? I have 8lbs of FF goex and no FFF. I have seen in an old Lyman book the use of FF loads but would have a better fuzz feeling from you guy's if this is OK. Thanks Manny

My load is 24 grs of GOEX FFg and a conical bullet in my Pietta Remington. It's accruate, and I don't need any Cream of Wheat to bring the ball up. I've tried FFFg, and it didn't shoot as well.

Gary - is there a logical explanation why the ffg works better other than it works better???

Don't discount anything. Whatever works for you is the best. I have heard of 1f even being used with great success in revolvers and pistols

It's amazing what different guns like. Hearing that one member shoots 7 gr of 3F, I tried some light loads; 10 gr of 3F will put them all in a 1.5" group at 25 yards from a rest, while a more standard charge of 24 grains sprays them all over. I don't shoot revolver that well because I don't shoot revolver that well, not because it won't shoot well.

Really the only thing to do is devote a day to it and for any given bullet you want to use, start low with powder, and work up; do this in 6 shot strings, with filler and without, with 2 and 3 and even 1 and 4 FG.

I can't explain why FFg works better than FFFg in my revolver. It certainly flies in the face of accepted thinking. I did go through the whole routine of numbering my cylinders and grouping them individually. My bullet is http://leeprecision.com/mold-d-c-456-220-1r.html It's surprizing how much academic speculation can go by the wayside with one trip to the range.

I did experiment with the roundball and Mav Dutchman bullets. Roundballs didn't shoot as well. The Mav Dutchman shot just as good, but with a load that I needed to use filler. I like not having to use filler.

Beg pardon, the lowest I ever took it was 9 grains. I'm shooting 12 grains of Swiss 3F now, with a deep sub-six hold.

When shooting a flat base bullet in a pistol or rifle velocity is everything. When shooting a hollow base bullet expansion and velocity has to work together. I have seen 2f goex grain size to be consistant in size where 3f goex can vay greatly. Swiss is consistant with almost every grain and that is why it works so well. If you have a 3f goex that granulars very in size then it is very well that 2f goex that has consistant granulars could very much shoot better than the 3f. Rich
