To All: I have the chance to purchase an 1860 Allen and Wheelock rim fire carbine. My question is, is it possible to convert this to a center fire carbine? The carbine is 44 cal. I am just curious would a conversion be possible or cost feasibleBryan Davis

Please know it is not allowed for use in the N-SSA before you begin the conversion process.

For what it's worth, if you want to shoot it as is I have the .44 cal rimfire cases using a .22 blank or defanged .22 bullet for a primer. $4 ea. Send PM if interested.

Yes, They can, I have one blacksmith converted to 44-40. I saw 2 for sale at the Horse Soldier at one of the past nationals. Pretty sure they had new blocks made and were 44 colt or 44 specials. Both did sell there. Don't know why, but they were refered to as rifles not carbines in the day.
