I understand the "Line" but what is the "stretch" on a barrel reline?
Can someone explain the process?

You've seen hundreds of muskets with shortened barrels. Well.....they get relined AND stretched back out to original length and contour

Ok Pat, you got my curiosity up. I know how how you reline a musket barrel. I have three that Bobby did for me. But just how do you add length to a barrel that has been shorten? I have an idea how it is done but not sure.

He usually turns the original barrel into a sleeve from the rear band back and then machines a new tube that slips into the remains of the original and uses some industrial grade Lock Tite like compound to bond them. Same stuff he uses for a liner. You wind up with a new bore all the way to the breech plug with original inspector and proof marks.

Thanks Jim
That's how I thought it was done. But did not know for sure or why not just replace the barrel. But did not think of saving the inspector and proof marks.
