Who shoots the Rapine Minnie wadcutter #.575315 with any success,??. what load do you use,??. I have one of these molds, and am going to try it out. I was thinking 35-45 grns of 3-F. I ran some thru my .575 sizer with MCM lube from John, and loaded some up with 35, and 40 grns 3-F GOEX, and a peas worth of "Hodgdon Minnie Lube" in the base ( yes I still have some). it seems like a lite weight bullet, mine averaged at 309 grns.

Was wondering what I could expect with this wadcutter, or is it a waist of time playing with it.

I shoot that minie sized .575 in a original '41 Mississippi formerly owned by Doc Chambers. It was relined by Bob Hoyt to
.577. 45 gr of 3F Goex and MCM lube in the grooves(not in the base) shoots one big hole at 50 yards.

I shoot the same bullet out of a .577 1:60 hoyt barrel. I size them to 576. I put crisco in the base to keep things soft. If not then after 6 or 7 rounds it becomes difficult to load. I also put lube in the grease grooves of course. My load is 40 grains of 3F. My wifes musket has the same kind of barrel and shoots the exact same load. The both will shoot groups smaller than the x ring @ 50 yards off of a bench.

I sometimes shoot the Raypine 575315 Minnie. I also have the Lyman venison of it. The Lyman has a thicker skirt. I use 45grs 3f Goex and lens lube. Both shoot well at 50yds. But at a 100yds with a little wind it gets blown around. Got to use some good old Kentucky windage

Hey Dave!

If you're looking to get rid of that mould, I'll take it (price TBD). I shoot a Rapine 580315 in my Zuoave with much success. I have another Zuoave that mics out 576. I'm been looking for the Rapine.

Thanks!

I used a Rapine 315 grain semi-wadcutter for years and it shot quite well, I won a 50 yard and a 100 yard musket medal with this combo at the Nationals back in the 80's. I had Ray add about 1/4" to the bottom of the skirt. This caused the bullets to stabilize better and it also added a little more weight to the bullet. With 40 grains of 3F this bullet was deadly accurate at 50 yards, but if a slight wind appeared these bullets would stray a little at 100 yards.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going to try it out this weekend with 40 and 45 grns 3F and MCM lube.

MS3635V Funny you should mention the wad cutter with a longer skirt. I've
got a copy of the lyman 575494 wadcutter that has an adjustable base pin. I cast up a few in the long pattern, and I'm going to try those also. It is about one gease groove longer.
